FAQ

Here are a few common questions we get:

What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

It is a self-defense martial art and combat sport based on grappling and ground fighting, wrestling and submission holds. It revolves around the concept that a smaller, weaker person can defend themselves against a bigger, stronger opponent by using leverage and weight distribution.

Is Jiu-Jitsu dangerous?

Our academy prides itself on providing a safe environment for learning and training. Like with any sport, accidents can happen but our trained coaching staff are aware of potentially dangerous situations and try to minimize any danger to our students.

Is Jiu-Jitsu good for kids?

Absolutely! It teaches kids self-respect, confidence and discipline.

What are the benefits of Jiu-Jitsu for adults?

Jiu-Jitsu is an excellent cardio vascular workout with the added benefit of working your core muscle group, improving overall strength and balance. It also helps you take your mind off of life's daily stressors. It is especially beneficial for individuals with PTSD, anxiety, or those who live or work in high stress environments. People from all walks of life learn and train Jiu-Jitsu. Not only will you find great resources on the mat, but you will make life long friendships along the way. Lastly, not only will you learn self-defense, but it will teach you patience, discipline, and problem solving skills that will help you in all aspects of life.

Kids Jiu-Jitsu

Our kids program is meant to introduce Jiu-Jitsu to your child in a fun and interactive way. They will do drills and play games to help improve their coordination, balance and body awareness. They will learn techniques that will help them understand the concept of Jiu-Jitsu and build a solid foundation.

No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu

In these classes you will learn how to grapple without the use of gi grips. We focus on wrestling, attacking submissions, controlling dominant positions and understanding movement. The pace of nogi is faster without the gi on so you will be able to improve on your timing and reactions in these classes as well.

Adult Fundamental Jiu-Jitsu

We believe that creating a solid foundation from the ground up adds to the success of our students. Our fundamentals program is designed for students to spend their first 1-2 years in. You will learn how to get to dominant positions, maintain these positions, escape from bad positions and attack basic submissions. You will also learn concepts that you can apply to all positions.

Open Mat

Building upon our other classes, open m is meant to provide extra training time to focus on perfecting the techniques learned throughout the week. More specific and live training is added to this class, as well as a time for specific questions for the professor and/or coaches.
