Why Every Parent Should Enroll their Kid in Jiu-Jitsu

It is unfortunate that in this day and age, children face more adversity in school than ever before with bullying and cyberbullying. Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a great way to get your child to be active (off their phones and tablets), gain confidence, learn self-defense and other important problem-solving skills that will benefit them throughout life.

Some of the largest benefits that we’ve experienced with children who train BJJ include:

1. Gaining self-respect and respect for others. In BJJ, they will learn to have respect for themselves and their training partners. They will also develop good social skills and learn how to communicate effectively and how to be helpful and considerate.

2. Learning how to protect themselves. BJJ will teach them how to effectively defend themselves in various situations; not just physically, but to also be able to deescalate situations that may or may not involve them in school or at home. At the same time, they will also develop healthy fitness habits, get active and have fun doing so!

3. Increasing concentration and focus. BJJ requires some level of concentration and focus to learn and chain techniques together. The more a child is successful in learning in BJJ, they will be able to perform better in life, school and beyond!

4. Increasing confidence and self-esteem. BJJ will teach kids to become leaders, not followers. Having increased self-esteem and confidence to be able to defend themselves accordingly, they are less likely to become a victim of bullying.

5. Developing a winning attitude. Our goal is to build champions, not just on the mat, but a champion in life!

In short, we are seeing a noticeable increase in bullying and unnecessary child suicides/attempts. We look to create a fun and safe environment for your child to learn a martial art that will keep them happy, healthy and has the ability to teach them valuable life skills and lessons to better prepare them for the future.

Some feedback that we’ve received from kids regarding training BJJ and applying it in their life, one student said:

“BJJ has helped me become more and more ready for defending myself outside of the academy. It helped me react to defend myself and not freeze up or let me become a victim of bullying. Most people would probably react the way that I did if they did BJJ too!”
